A Historic Celebration of Fidel Castro’s 100th Birthday
The Venceremos Brigade and National Network on Cuba are calling for 150 brigadistas to join a historic mobilization: two weeks, one mission. This August, we travel to Cuba for the Centenary of Fidel Castro not as tourists, but as comrades. We’re going to commemorate his 100th birthday and carry his legacy forward in the fight that continues: end the blockade, close Guantánamo, get Cuba off the terrorism list. This is a collective experience, not a vacation. We labor together, learn together, and return together, ready to bring the struggle against the blockade home. Join us.
Why this Brigade?
Right now, the U.S. is waging an all-out assault on Cuba. A naval blockade is cutting off fuel, leaving hospitals dark and families without power. The Cuban people face daily blackouts, shortages of food and medicine, and 60+ years of economic warfare. Cuba remains on an unjust “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list that blocks humanitarian aid and punishes ordinary Cubans.
Despite all of this, Cuba keeps going. Communities resist with dignity and determination. The same revolution that sends doctors across the globe and stands with Palestine refuses to break. If Cuba can show up for humanity, we can show up for Cuba. Join the brigade.
In Cuba, you will:
- Celebrate Fidel’s legacy with comrades who struggled alongside him
- Engage in solidarity labor alongside Cuban workers
- Meet revolutionary heroes and community organizers
- Learn directly about Cuba’s fight against the blockade, its campaign to eliminate racism, and its internationalist medical missions
- Deliver material aid gathered through brigade-wide fundraising and collection efforts
Who Should Apply?
We’re looking for a broad and politically diverse spectrum of brigadistas – from seasoned Cuba solidarity activists to those newly curious about Cuba. The only requirements are alignment with the Venceremos Brigade’s Points of Unity and a commitment to building disciplined people-to-people solidarity across borders.
We especially encourage these folks to apply:
- African/Black folks, Indigenous folks, Palestinian folks, and people of color
- Families with children
- Queer and trans comrades
- Elders and youth
- Workers, artists, students, and organizers of all kinds
Commitment
Accepted applicants must complete three mandatory pre-departure brigadista prep sessions. Prep sessions will support the cultivation of a healthy experience on the Brigade, and will also include legal training, logistical information, an overview of transformative justice practices, and development of a liberatory culture. Brigadistas are also expected to fundraise for their travel costs and collect material aid for our Cuban hosts.
Cost & Scholarships
Estimated cost: $1,950 (airfare to/from Miami not included)
Partial scholarships are available. No one should stay home because of cost. If you need assistance, indicate it on your application.
